WAMY

June 14, 2007

Today morning I attended a lecture at the WAMY (World Assembly of Muslim Youth). It was amazing masha’Allah. The speaker was a member of some Muslim board in India. She went on about the problems faced by Muslims today, how to curb them, parental obligations towards their kids etc. The whole thing left me feeling a little desolate. Half the lecture was on the Indian society, how Muslims there take to culture and traditions and oppress their women under the false pretext of Islam, how only 4% of Muslimahs study in high schools, and the ones who even make it to college drop out after marriage and kids..It’s fardh on both the man and woman to be active in the community, help create awareness, seek knowledge etc.

When you look at the Ummah today, sadly it’s all in tatters, there’s a serious deviation from the guidance of the Qur’an/Sunnah/Hadith. And we ourselves are to be blamed for that..

The Prophet (saws) said “You will follow the way of those who preceded you in every small matter step by step, even if they entered the narrow hole of Dab, a (spiny-tailed lizard) you will follow them.” They asked O Messenger of Allah, “Do you mean the Jewish and the Christians?” The Prophet (saws) answered “Who else!” (Reported by Imam Bukhari and Muslim)
Clearly many Muslims today are in such a position. Being born to Muslim parents doesn’t make you a Muslim. Practicing out of your own conviction does…
Lesson I learned today (boost, to be precise)–> Wherever you go, be yourself or change for the better. The world is full of fitnah, have your emaan enclosed strong and tight in your heart, trust Allah (swt), victory will be yours!
